In observance of Child Rights Month, the NSS Unit of the college organized a child welfare awareness programme. During the activity, NSS volunteers prepared and displayed instructional boards across the campus highlighting the Child Helpline number 1098, with the objective of creating awareness about child protection mechanisms and support services. The initiative aimed to foster social responsibility and encourage active involvement in child welfare initiatives.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the college organized an Amrit Sarovara Cleanliness Drive at the Murudeshwar seashore with the objective of promoting environmental awareness and social responsibility. NSS volunteers actively participated in cleaning the coastal area, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation.
RNS First Grade College, Murudeshwar, in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, organized the Drug-Free India Campaign 2025 to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. The programme featured a special address by Prof. Dinesh Acharya, Head of the Automobile Department at RNS Rural Polytechnic, Murudeshwar, who spoke about the risks of drug use and its long-term impact on health and well-being.Students actively participated in the pledge-taking ceremony, committing themselves to lead a disciplined, healthy, and drug-free life.
RNS First Grade College, Murudeshwar, in association with the NSS Unit, celebrated National Unity Day. Dr. Shantashri Haridas, Principal, highlighted the importance of national integrity and urged everyone to uphold the mantra of unity, fulfilling Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision. The event was attended by Prof. Ganapati Kaikini, Prof.Mamata Marathi, Prof.Ganesh Naik, Prof. Arpita Prabhu, and Prof. Dhanashree Kalbhag.
The NSS Unit of RNS First Grade College, Murudeshwar, organized a series of activities as part of the Sardar @150 pre-event celebrations, including an Essay Competition on “Iron Resolve, Iron Nation”, a Debate Competition on “Unity in Diversity is India’s Greatest Strength and Its Greatest Challenge”, and a Poster Making Competition on “National Integrity”. The celebrations also featured a Special Lecture Programme on “Unity in Diversity – Unity Among Youth”, Nukkad Nataks to promote national integrity, and a Yoga Session to encourage wellness, collectively aiming to inspire patriotism, unity, and social responsibility among students.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of RNS First Grade College, Murudeshwar envisions shaping socially responsible, disciplined, and service-oriented youth by fostering values of self-control, leadership, and national commitment through community engagement and experiential learning.
RNS First Grade College organized an Annual Camp of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit in joint collaboration with the NSS Unit, Karnatak University, Dharwad, District Panchayat Karwar, Taluk Panchayat Bhatkal, and Village Panchayat Shirali at Srivali High School, Chitrapur, from 24 November 2025 to 30 November 2025.
The camp was conducted under the theme “Youth for My Bharat: Youth for Digital Literacy.” During the seven-day camp, the volunteers actively participated in various activities beyond their usual comfort zones, demonstrating commitment, adaptability, and a strong spirit of social service.
The NSS Camp was inaugurated by Shri Shailesh Bellare. The programme was presided over by Dr. Shantashri Haridas, along with the chief guests Dr. Ravindra Kaykini, Smt. Mamatha Bhat, and Prof. Mamata Marathi. The welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Ganapathi Naik, the Sub-Coordinator of the NSS unit.
The NSS Programme Officer had planned the schedule of activities well in advance, which included flag hoisting, breakfast, shramadan, lunch, guest lecture, sports events, cultural rehearsals, cultural programmes, assembly sessions, and the conclusion of the day with dinner.
The NSS camp encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones and serve the nation, thereby fostering a sense of social responsibility and community service. The camp also played a vital role in educating village residents about maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in their surroundings. During the camp, volunteers actively participated in various activities such as cleaning temple premises, conducting village surveys, and creating awareness about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, plastic-free village campaign, national devotion, and personality development.
NSS volunteers undertook extensive cleanliness drives by cleaning the surroundings of Chitrapur Math, including the Rathabeedi area, and clearing gutters to prevent water blockage. They also carried out cleanliness campaigns at Srivali PU College and High School premises, as well as the Chitrapur Primary School campus, where plastic waste was removed to ensure a clean and eco-friendly environment. All activities were carried out with great enthusiasm and dedication by the NSS volunteers.
The NSS camp provided valuable learning experiences that enriched the volunteers both socially and intellectually. Through expert lectures, the volunteers gained awareness about cyber crime and online safety, digital security, and the role of youth in building a digitally empowered India. Sessions on strong youth leadership inspired them to contribute towards national development, while discussions on the Swadeshi Movement helped them understand the importance of self-reliance and patriotism. The camp also encouraged cultural expression, teamwork, discipline, and leadership through active participation in cultural programmes, thereby contributing to the overall personality development of the NSS volunteers. The cultural programmes also provided an opportunity for the volunteers to showcase their talents to the village community while offering meaningful entertainment.
The final day marked a memorable conclusion with the inspiring presence of the Chief Guest, Prof. Krishna Hegde. The programme was further honoured by the presence of Guests of Honour, Mr.Gangadhar Naik, Mr.H. M. Naik, and Shri.Shailesh Bellare.
The camp concluded with a valedictory programme held in the presence of the Principal, the NSS Programme Officer, and staff members. During the session, the students shared their valuable experiences of the camp and expressed that it had helped them develop leadership qualities, time management skills, discipline, planning abilities, and a sense of dignity of labour.
The NSS Camp 2025–26 concluded successfully, leaving a lasting impact on both the volunteers and the community. Through active participation in diverse activities, students enhanced their leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility. The camp not only fostered personal growth but also strengthened their commitment to serving society, making it a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
